Žilina recovered after half-time to win the return
Žilina were behind at the interval after van Hoorenbeeck scored for Hajduk in first-half stoppage time. Roginić equalised in the 52nd minute, and a late own goal put the home side ahead at the end.
The 2–1 victory reversed the result on the night, but not the two-leg deficit from the 2–0 defeat in Split. Hajduk advanced 3–2 overall. Žilina's second-half recovery is therefore worth separating from the qualification outcome: the home win was real, even though the European route ended.
Europe started before the domestic league opener
July dates on two calendars
Žilina's official season announcement placed the European start on 9 July and the domestic league opener against Košice on 26 July. The Europa League tie therefore came before the announced first league match.
Žilina's earlier competition milestones
UEFA records Žilina reaching the UEFA Cup group stage in 2008/09 and Europa League play-offs in 2009/10 and 2015/16. The 2026/27 entry is the first qualifying round.
